This
is the highly acclaimed score by British composer Alex Heffes
composed for the feature film TOUCHING THE VOID.
In 1985 Joe Simpson and his friend Simon Yates set out to climb
the unconquered west face of the 21,000 foot Peruvian mountain
called Siula Grande. The two had managed to reach the summit and
were climbing down when disaster struck and Simpson’s ice
axe came unstuck and the ensuing fall smashed his right leg.
The
gruelling tale that followed is a story of
human courage, despair, heroism and resourcefulness that spawned
a best -selling book by Simpson that is yet to be out of print.
Oscar-winning director, Kevin Macdonald, has produced a drama-documentary
based on the book that graphically illustrates the episode and
has commissioned Composer Alex Heffes to write the score, an important
aspect of any mountaineering film where most conversations consist
of grunts.
The composer already has a an impressive credit list
including television scores like ‘Big Cat’, ‘Stan
The Man’, ‘Little White Lies’ and 'Mind Games'
although his most recent works have been for the cinema including
Crust, Late Night Shopping and the brilliant score for The Parole
Officer.
