From the sanctioned to the forbidden, the suggestive to the blatant - since its beginnings the evocations of sex have saturated cinema, sometimes directly or embedded in romance, comedy, crime, fantasy and melodrama.
SEX AND THE CINEMA features highlights from a selection of sublime film scores spanning over fifty years of movie making - from Gabriel Yared’s, beautiful and atmospheric underscoring of Betty Blue’s unabashed sensuality to John Barry’s sax = sex notion weaving through Lawrence Kasdan's sweat soaked thriller Body Heat; from overwrought and passionate music of The Piano to Bob Harris’s Rachmaninoff-influenced Lolita Love Theme.
Also featuring on the CD are Thomas Newman’s chilled out American Beauty piano theme, Gato Barbieri’s Grammy Awarded jazz fusion music of Last Tango In Paris, Gustavo Santolalla’s country tinged and delicate score for Brokeback Mountain, Francis Lai’s sentimental synth theme from Bilitis and French singer-songwriter Pierre Bachellet’s 70s Theme from Emmanuelle which has recently been featured as a sample in Lilly Allen’s breakthrough single Littlest Things.
Included on the CD are 2 classical masterpieces -Leo Delibes’ Flower Duet from The Hunger and Shostakovich’s Waltz No.2 from Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut.
The CD finishes with Douglas Cuomo’s sophisticated and jazzy theme for the long awaited Sex And The City feature film. |
