This
is the hard to find CD release (Not to be confused with the TVT
song CD)
of Bruce Broughton's (Silverado and Young Sherlock Holmes) original film score for the 1999 big screen version of the classic IRWIN ALLEN TV series
LOST IN SPACE directed by Stephen Hopkins (Predator 2) and starring William Hurt (Altered States and Dark City), Mimi Rogers (Rapture and The X Files), Heather Graham (Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me),Lacey Chabert (Wild Thornberrys & Party Of Five),Gary Oldman (Red Dragon and The Professional)and Matt LeBlanc (Friends.
The score to "Lost in Space" -- all 66 minutes of it -- was written in about two-and-a-half weeks.
The score is based primarily upon the one theme that appears first in the Main Title. It is used as the underpinning of most of the cues and has many
different variants.
The other major theme is the one for Dr. Smith,
which portrays him as mischievously malevolent. If one listens carefully, the theme can be heard in a distorted and distended way in the Spider Smith sequences later in the
score.
The music is performed by The Sinfonia of London and is in the same exciting orchestral style of John Williams
music for such IRWIN ALLEN classics as LOST IN SPACE,THE TIME TUNNEL and LAND OF GIANTS and Jerry Goldsmith's music for VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.
